Snow White’s Apple Scone Recipe
We sat down for tea with our dear friend Snow White {read her story here} and after having just a few sips of “Fairest of Them All” we noticed a glimmer in her eyes and a smile on her face. She exclaimed, “I have just the thing to pair with this tea!”
Snow White then opened her window curtains and beckoned for a few wild animals to come inside and aid her in baking this treat, which we were still not privy to. Watching a princess move around her kitchen with such skill and grace while birds, chipmunks, and deer are put to task cracking eggs and sifting flour - is a magical experience.
A little while after our princess came gliding out of her kitchen holding a platter of apple scones with the most delectable smell! They paired fabulously well with the “Fairest of Them All Tea” and we just knew that we had to get the recipe to give to all of our friends and fae.
-
Of course, we had to recreate it for the other elves and fairies that were hard at work back at the FTT headquarters:
But alas, here is the recipe that was given to us by our dear Snow White:
Snow White’s Apple Scones
-
Ingredients:
-
2 c. Unbleached all-purpose flour
-
3 tbs. sugar
-
3/4 tsp. kosher salt
-
6 tbs. cold unsalted butter, cubed
-
2 medium apples cubed, with the skin removed
-
1 tsp. grated lemon zest
-
1/3 c. heavy cream {plus more for brushing}
-
2 large eggs
-
honey for drizzling
-
4 tbs. cinnamon for dusting
-
Directions
- Preheat oven to 400°F. Sift flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt into a large bowl. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, cut in butter until the largest pieces are the size of peas. Stir in apples and lemon zest.
- In a small bowl, whisk together cream and eggs. Make a well in the center of the flour mixture. Add cream mixture; stir lightly with a fork just until the dough comes together.
-
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead a few times to bring it together. Pat into a 6-inch circle, about 1 1/2 inches thick. Using a biscuit cutter or a glass cup dipped in flour, cut dough into circles. Reform dough to continue cutting circles. Transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush tops with cream.
-
Bake until the tops are golden brown, 20 to 22 minutes. Drizzle with honey and dust with cinnamon, using a flour sifter. Let cool on a sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer scones to a wire rack and let cool completely.
